All the local music fans who visit Beijing talk about how much more advanced the indie music scene is compared to Hong Kong so it's great to have Crazy Young Master hosting events like Beijing Explosion. It gives all us Hong Kong indie fans a chance to see what all the fuss is about. So are those Beijing bands really so much better than our local Hong Kong talent? On the evidence of this show, the main difference is simply that Beijing bands have a better music scene to nurture them and forward-thinking labels like Modernsky to support them as well as more people turning out to see their gigs.
The supporting act here were a young local band, Kissing on the dancefloor, one of the many upcoming bands in Hong Kong with lots of energy and creativity in their songwriting but whose only recorded output so far is on a compilation.
That's a magic fragrance under your skin
I'm trapped into your cherry-like lips
Your eyes got smoky shadows
Love will come in time when the neon light grows '
Kissing on the Dancefloor are a recently formed indie pop band with a a clever collection of songs that just need more work to make up a very good live set.The band are Alex(vocals, guitar),JT (guitar),Tony (bass) and Lung (drums).KOTDF have some good material and were featured on Channel V after their HK live show
Kissing on the Dancefloor 'Undefined Relationship'
Super VC are Sun Ling Sheng (vocals, guitar),Liu Tao (guitar),Zhen Yang (bass) and Yang Ling (drums).
The band were formed in 2001 and then reformed in 2005.They have 2 already recorded albums and another is on its way so they have lots of material and gigging experience to draw on and after a one -day delay due to the typhoon they were ready to rock the Fringe Club. They play a driving power pop style with lots of infectious hooks and know how to generate onstage excitement. They are described in TimeOut as ' China’s best-known Brit-rock-style band'and the crowd excitement was obvious as they took the stage playing mainly uptempo new material from their new album. They have a tight, rocking sound with lots of pop hooks and catchy guitar riffs and Ling Sheng's vocals were good even if there wasn't much that local Hong Kong bands couldn't do as well given the same level of support.
A good gig but what happened to those great Beijing Explosion shows when we had three or four bands of different styles on one bill?
