.............First on were The Dummy.Having only heard the band before on their CD 'History', I didn't expect that they would be so great live. The album doesn't really capture their unique sound which comes over well in a live set.The band gained a lot of new fans and handled the difficult opening slot well The band remind me of The Verve in their 'Urban Hymns' period which in my book is very good. They played an intense, set and even rocked it out at times. The band write some great songs so try to catch them live.
Next on were The Train with a great set of rocking, retro punk, sounding like they have listened to lots of classic punk bands like The Clash,Gang of Four,The Ramones. They played a storming set and were very popular with the crowd.the band have lots of driving energy and I hope that you can check them out live.
Of course the night belonged to Innisfallen.the band kicked off with a high intensity version of 'Song for Wistaria' with its frenetic guitars and psychedelic lyrics about 'Sunburst flower s' and 'metal falcons' and then launched into 'Winter'with its chiming guitars and waltz -tempo rhythm followed by the more intimate 'No Reply'.By this time the band were well into gear and were already big favourites with the packed crowd.Next, the band were reminiscent of radiohead on 'Hairsting' and the hugely popular 'Beautiful Soul' highlighted the singer's passionate, intense vocal style .The band then rocked it out with a version of 'Beautiful soul and an extended version of 'the Butterfly Effect'.The band finished their set with versions of 'Sounds behind the Wall', and (with enthusiastic audience participation)'The Last Cold front' with its ringing chorus of 'Come turn on the lights;sadness gets out of sight/I can hear the nightingales singing'.The band's sound is somewhere between Radiohead and Suede and on this showing they may be the best band inhk!Buy the CD and go seethem live!
