The Fringe Club put on a show with some 60s and 70s influenced rock.Grin kicked off the set at LISTEN UP! at The fringe Club with Velvette Vendetta,Grin and Very Ape.19th October. Grin were first on the stage.Take a supercharged mixture of guitar and drums and add a moody female vocalist and turn up the volume to produce some lively powerpop.The band,formed in 2004 and members are Jenny(vocals)Vincent(guitar),Hei(guitar ),Kenji(bass) and Awah(drums).The band opened the show with a lively set playing songs like 'Peppermint','Feng ha' and one song in English,'Innocent' which is on myspace. Velvette Vandela(aka Velvette Vendetta ) are always great value.With acknowledged influences from dark,clasical to alternative and grunge ,the band are always exciting to watch.Despite a few initial technical problems,the band were on good form and for me were the highlight of the eveningwith their energetic ,passionate set with favourites like 'A Very Pale Rose','This is Our Rotten' and 'Too Late' The band is Jack(vocal,guitar),Dave (guitar),Ken (bass) and Andre (drums).The band gave a high energy prerformance and the set went down well!They gave a great set despite some technical hitches and for their finale invited the singer of Very Ape to join them on stage for a version of 'Anarchy in The UK'..........UK punk Hong Kong style with a Japanese flavour!

Very Ape are Hong Kong's very own band of Japanese style rockers.Using some synth effects,and some powerful lead vocals and a driving rhythm section with a great bass,they played a storming set .....
The band is Urase Yoshito (vocal),Teramoto Atsushi (guitar),Koya Hisakazu (bass) and Ogura Yasushi (drums).Using some synth effects,and some powerful lead vocals and a driving rhythm section with a great bass,they played a storming set..The lead guitarist plays in an intoxicating,flamboyant style that's like the guitar heroes of pre-punk days with a strong grunge influence.....Sounds like?Nirvana's 'Very Ape' meets Smashing Pumpkins' 'Adore'.....
